About Reader

Reader is filling a gap in the scholarly publishing ecosystem by providing a modern, accessible, and user-friendly interface for reading academic articles online. It’s designed to make reading long-form content easier and more enjoyable, with features that help readers stay focused and engaged. It works on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, adapting the layout to fit any screen size. It comes in as a replacement to the Lens Viewer, which is not being developed further.

By using OS-APS templates reader can be customized to fit the publisher branding without any coding required.

First release

Reader launched on 26 September 2025. We appreciate your feedback as we continue refining the experience, and it's already rolled into the OS-APS 2025.2 release.

Personalize your reading

Use the cog to switch between theme options like sepia or dark mode and fine-tune the font size slider. Your choices stick, so the reader opens exactly how you left it.

The button in the top-left reveals the table of contents. On smaller screens it stays tucked away so you can stay focused on the page, yet it remains only one tap away.

Stay oriented while you explore

On wider layouts the context rail on the right surfaces quick actions: the Metadata tab highlights document details and key tags, the Media tab lists embedded assets for easy preview, and the References tab keeps citations one click away while you read.

Inclusive by design

The reader uses a clear document structure and descriptive labels so screen readers and keyboard shortcuts glide from headings into toolbar actions and article content without friction.
